Sånn. I still can´t find Bar Barista irl when walking round where it should be, or so I´m told by others who also go there. Am home now, on the couch, snuggled up in a bright blue camping sleeping bag, laptop on lap, sitting up on couch pillows (the pillows of the back of the couch! haha). Ah. Very comfy. Breakfast of mango, papaya, pineapple, cucumber, radishes; a little dill herbed salmon from last night, and a square of dark chocolate. Water and a vitamin. Hmmm yeah, study break, in between study. 6-8 hours today. Study.
But all I could think of, annoyingly is where is Bar Barista, oh yeah I still couldn´t find it the other day, when walking around. I found the Indisk--the new old Indian restaurant which had been over by a block up from the wharf. I found the hairdressers. I found a cool 20-somethings night club with lots of large warnings of lasers, age checks, loud music. Walked around the same three streets up and down from both directions, from both sides of the street, but no, I still have not found where Bar Barista is supposed to have moved to.
Wow, they said the new location had ghosts and bad karma and things that move there move out just as quickly.....but dayam I haven´t even found it yet and is it already moved out?! They had a smokey karma ceremony with a shaman to rid the space of any bad spirits. And lots of good press, both actual and word of mouth. But where is it?! Did a quick search, to find the actual address--as I only have the street name, to see if I can find it online.
I found one of the places to stay I´d recommend (see other post on where to stay that I posted weeks ago). This is supposed to be near by, next door maybe. But I still can´t find Bar Barista. Will walk around again tomorrow. Today my water is cut off all day til tomorrow, so haven´t had a shower since day before yesterday night ick, not sure I want to go out today. The city is ripping out the old pipes and installing new today, hence having to shut off the water. The roadworks have been going on all summer--they have done so much, and so quickly, all along various roads, whilst the actual daylight hours are so long, before the dark comes in fall/winter. But I sure wish they finish soon, will be glad for all the ripped up roads, bus stops, etc to be finally put back together! Some areas are ripped up for 10 feet deep and wide. Makes it difficult to walk on the roads, as the sidewalks and walking areas are also ripped up. Pedestrians have the right of way here, and traffic is usually if not always very polite and safe here, but when there is barely enough room for one small car, and there is a car, a bus, walkers with strollers and dogs all wanting to pass in that small space. Well, it can be stressful for everyone! even if it is not raining that particular day!
People are getting a bit fed up, a bit tiresome of not being able to walk along what is usually such walkable areas that you always see many many people out walking, so people have finally started getting out again walking. Dogs, babies, kids, parents, grandparents, bicycles, land skies, horse-drawn carriages and wood carts. And yes to clarify, KIDS little kids in first grade even yes they do walk here safely on their own, all the time! I haven´t seen the bicycle kid from the bus yet all summer--he´s so clever, such a great kid! Brings his bicycle onto the bus, to meet up with his friends, they talk in several languages, all going off at another stop to finish their plans, riding with their bicycles where ever. Sometimes one of the kids brings their dogs. The kind of kids I see our kids being when they get that age: independent, taking the bybanen, bus themselves (heck they already know how, I just don´t let them yet!), meeting up with their friends, exploring. It´s cool, fantastic that kids can be kids here, and not feel scared to do so, that parents don´t feel scared for them to prevent it. It´s a bit bucolic out here, but it´s safe, fun, lots of things to do for all ages, and still close to bigger places. But really, when you´re walking or riding a bike, you don´t really need a huge city the size of a million people---there is only so much space one can capture on foot or bike in any day! It´s big enough here as is, when it is so walkable, and a car is not necessary!:) THAT is one huge reason I live here. It is a human, kid scale, foot sized place. And the public transportation is also excellent, for the stuff you need a little further help getting to by foot:)
