Food: butter, melange, margarines

Grocery store cooler today full of mostly lots of different types of margarines. The one called Melange is a bit like crisco and margarine mixed. I tried it once when there was no butter to be had, and it was an interesting flavour and texture. I thought it made pretty good pie crust for pot pies with chicken, beef and veggie fillings. But, that is all I would use it for. Maybe in a fried fruit pie, if mixed with mostly butter, it would be good. But for sweet pie crusts and other bakery goods, I think it adds a slightly strange taste like a tallow flavour. Possibly it might be good in savory breads but I have not tried that. Yes, it tastes a bit like tallow, now I think about it. The commercials say it´s good for Christmas cookies and frying steaks on the stovetop. Again, maybe, but I haven´t tried it.

The only actual butter in the above photo is in the lower left hand corner. A close up shot is the second photo. The actual butter is delicious, on bread or in baked items. These are what I usually use in baking and cooking.
And a tiny bit of very small batch gourmet butter. Extremely good! Especially on fresh baked breads, and for making uncooked types of buttercream frosting.
