trug of grapes, cheeses, crusty breads

It´s Påske ferie (Easter holidays here). The shops have been closed the last two days; tomorrow and part of Monday (all Monday?) again they´ll be closed. Today is limited hours, both with shoppes and the bus, which was a Sunday schedule (only once an hour or few, no night buses; bybanen trains limited hours too). Normally, I shop every day for that day.  And, to be clear, by shops, today, I mean the grocery stores are open for a while. The usual stores are mostly all if not all closed, for Påske.

Still beautiful summery looking outside, warmer than yesterday, blue skies, a few random sprinklings of snow every now and again. Perfect weather for just wearing a thick sweatshirt, trainers and yoga pants, for the walk to the shops just down the road. The walk is pleasant, and mostly quiet, along the forested mountains, down a winding country road. All day I´ve seen a handful of cars, most out are walking with their kids, strolling their babies, jogging, riding bikes:).

For the grocery walk, I took my small Swedish backpack and two small recyclable cloth carrier bags. So, about 3 bags of groceries of mostly fresh fruits and fresh veggies, two very good bakery breads with cracked crusts, brie, a tiny bag of about 20 shelled pecan halves, a litre of milk, organic butter equaling about 2 US sticks, one tiny pack of thin-sliced bacon, a spearmint herb plant, and 2 jars of cherry yogurt, all cost about 700 NOK.  Or barely twice what one fast food meal for one here would cost.  A basic pepperoni pizza here would cost about 40 dollars.

The two rustic bakery breads, some French brie, English Red Leicester, a tiny packet of French butter with flaked mineral salts in the butter (that´s what´s in the jar). All in my English garden trug, handmade wooden basket with tiny copper nails I used to use in my English garden. In summers here, it´s great for picking wild berries for pies...
